A LA RIOJA father and son have been arrested for stealing an electric scooter while on holiday 600 kms away in Benidorm after its GPS unit tracked them home.

The Policia Nacional found the scooter in the boot of their car which was being serviced at a workshop.

The €2,500 two-wheeler was part of fleet belonging to a Benidorm rental company and was left unlocked outside its premises.

RECOVERED SCOOTER

The owner filed a complaint with the police and told them about the scooter’s built-in GPS unit.

It showed it firstly on the N-332 heading towards Valencia and eventually ending up on a street in the La Rioja capital of Logroño.

The police went to the address and spoke to the car workshop boss who said he knew nothing about it.

A check revealed that the two-wheeler was inside a high-end car that was due to be serviced.

The vehicle owner was summonsed to the workshop and told officers that when he was on holiday in Benidorm with his son, they found the scooter abandoned in a ditch on the outskirts of the city and decided to take it.

The men aged 78 and 53 have been charged with theft.
