UPMARKET expat hotspots on the Costa Blanca have bucked a severe property slump to record massive growth in home sales.
While transactions across the Alicante province plummeted by 13.3% in the first half of the year, a handful of towns have seen sales soar by up to 26%.
According to Ministry of Housing figures, the province recorded 25,593 operations between January and June – almost 4,000 fewer than the same period in 2025.

But the affluent coastal town of Finestrat defied the trend with a 26.2% jump in transactions, followed closely by the inland municipality of Sax, which enjoyed a 22% increase.
Sant Joan d’Alacant also saw double-digit growth of 15.6%.
Meanwhile, the highly sought-after expat haven of Javea experienced a solid 5.6% bump, making it the only market in this growth group to reach half a thousand sales.

The boom in these specific areas comes as 105 of the province’s 141 towns suffer falling sales, driven by record-high prices and a severe lack of available properties.
Alicante city saw a massive 18.5% contraction with just 3,061 sales, while the tourist mecca of Benidorm suffered an even sharper fall of 19.1%.
Popular tourist destinations on the coast also suffered significant hits, with Villajoyosa plunging by 22.2% and Santa Pola falling by 21%.
The downward trend continued in northern expat strongholds like Denia, which recorded a 16.8% decrease, while the southern hub of Orihuela dropped by 12.1%.
Inland, even Elda saw sales plummet by 23.1%, despite offering a much lower average property price of €1,048 per square metre.
Torrevieja proved more resilient, suffering only a modest 3.8% decline to record 3,399 sales and reclaim its crown as the busiest market in the region.
Despite the sharp drop in the number of homes changing hands across the province, rising prices mean the total value of sales remained largely unchanged at €5.35 billion.
