Costa Blanca cannabis clubs are busted for selling to tourists

TWO cannabis clubs that sold drugs to holidaymakers in Alfaz del Pi and Denia have been closed down by authorities.

The associations acted as legitimate organisations to peddle narcotics before they were raided by the Policia Nacional.

Cannabis clubs are legal in Spain so long as members bring their own supplies to consume on licensed premises which are barred from selling drugs.

Two men aged 25 and 32 were arrested in Alfaz del Pi- the president and secretary/treasurer of their association.

Five men and a woman aged between 22 and 50 years were detained in Denia including club officials.

The nationalities of those arrested in the two operations have not been disclosed.

British and Irish nationals were arrested in 2024 for their involvement in a Denia club that sold drugs packaged up as food.

The Alfaz establishment advertised on websites specifically for cannabis associations to reach domestic and international tourists visiting the area.

The police were tipped off about what was going on and saw a constant flow of people, mostly tourists, entering the premises and leaving hurriedly after only a short time inside.

Among the identified buyers were numerous foreign nationals staying in Alfaz.

The Policia Nacional said the activity had caused some concern among people living close to the property.

A court order was issued to search the premises, which was not licensed by the local council.

Officers seized 295 grams of marijuana buds, 331 grams of hashish and 221 grams of hashish oil.

Several marijuana joints and 0.60 grams of cocaine were also removed as well as €520 in cash.

The police operation in Denia took place in the early summer, with the cannabis association building now closed and sealed by a court order issued on October 7.

Officers went to the building to execute the closure which will be enforced until legal proceedings against six people are concluded.

The Denia association that was legally registered as an entity dedicated to ‘naturism and alternative medicines’ but was in fact a front to sell narcotic substances.

Suspicions arose after police received information about the frequent movement of young people who used the premises.

Surveillance confirmed that drugs were supplied to customers who were not club members.

As in Alfaz del Pi, there were numerous foreign tourists dropping into the club who were on holiday in Denia.

The Policia Nacional seized 2,126 grams of marijuana, 1,031 grams of hashish, 601 marijuana cigarettes and €670 in cash.
