Calpe is offering communal letter boxes to expat home owners

1

CALP Town Council has expanded its network of communal letterboxes in Carrió, Marisol Park, Ortembach and Los Pinos.

As part of its Line 900 Department, it has also established a postal delivery point in Enginent II for the first time.

A total of 2,907 new letterboxes are now available to residents in these rural areas.

The Council has been providing this service since 2014, when Correos discontinued door-to-door postal deliveries in certain residential areas classified as special delivery zones.

These are areas that did not have the communal letterbox facilities required under postal regulations.

Although the installation is formally the responsibility of owners, the Council took on this task in order to facilitate access to postal services and ensure that residents in these areas could continue to receive their mail.

As part of the latest improvements, 48 additional letterboxes have been installed in Carrió, Marisol Park, Ortembach and Los Pinos, while Enginent II has been equipped with a bank of 24 letterboxes for postal deliveries.

The Council is also responsible for ensuring that these facilities are properly identified and arranged in alphanumeric order in accordance with current regulation.

As a result, some extensions may require the relocation of existing letterboxes to maintain this arrangement, although their numbering and keys will remain unchanged.

Under the municipal by-law, owners of detached houses and industrial premises may apply for one of these letterboxes.

The fee is €120 for a 15-year period and applications must be submitted through the Citizen Service Office.

However, residents are advised to check availability in advance by calling the free Line 900 Citizen Information and Incident Reporting Service on 900 20 40 50.

The Council will continue to expand this service in residential areas where demand exists.
