Car insurance agent pocketed customer premiums in mass fraud on the Costa Blanca

A COSTA Blanca motor insurance agent has been accused of pocketing premiums paid by 27 clients who unknowingly were not covered to drive their vehicles.

The Policia Nacional arrested the Spaniard, 48, in Denia and revealed he previously committed similar crimes.

The police got involved when several of the agent’s clients contacted them to say they had been scammed.

They only discovered they were not insured after sanctions had been issued against them.

All of the complainants said they thought they were covered as the agent sent them the ‘receipt paid’ cover note, only for him to cancel it shortly afterwards.

The agent made sure did he cancelled a policy during a grace period where penalty payments did not apply.

He also sent clients images of notes that apparently confirmed they got what they paid for, but some insurance companies got nothing in the first place.

Though he has been charged with 27 counts of fraud, the Policia Nacional believes there could be further cases where customers where hood-winked.
