JAVEA’S ‘cursed’ new municipal swimming pool which started construction in 2021 has suffered a fresh set back- water leaks totalling 500 litres per week.
Rising costs plagued and delayed the project with the council having to pay an extra €922,000 as the lay-out reached around €6 million.
The authority was handed over the pool by contractor Contratas Vilor on April 25 and municipal technicians did not notice any significant deficiencies.

When it came to filling it, the level fell dramatically overnight due to a leak while residents are being constantly reminded to save water during the drought.
Javea mayor, Rosa Cardona, confirmed the pool loses 500 litres per week and won’t be opened until the problem is sorted.
Urban planning councillor, Pere Seprana, said the work by Contratos Vilor has a one-year warranty and the council has a financial bond lodged with it by the firm.
Critics say the council should not have accepted the work in the first place and blamed municipal technicians for not checking thoroughly enough.
The PSOE’s Jose Chulvi claimed that even if the leak was solved ‘tomorrow’, the pool could not open because prices and operating regulations had not been approved and no maintenance or lifeguards had been hired.
