A FIFTH illegal car park close to Alicante-Elche airport has been shutdown this year as prosecutors probe over 100 unlicensed parking lots in the area.
Elche’s Policia Local swooped on a new facility with a capacity for 1,000 vehicles on an area of land covering 8,000 m2.
The council says the closure is in addition to four executed since May with a sixth park currently the subject of legal proceedings.

It added that it had identified over 110 illegal sites within striking distance of the airport
Meanwhile the Informacion newspaper reports that the Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested a list of unauthorised sites.
That’s on the back of findings by the Environmental Unit that point to potential offences related to land use and pollution.
Elche council says that it will fully cooperate and provide details.
The latest move on the Torrellano Alto site follows action taken by Elche in the El Altet and Saladas districts on two parking lots with a joint area of 10,000 m2.
Elche council passed a motion in late April that has led to a hundred inspections with around half of those executed by the Policia Local.
Since June 4, 46 requests have been submitted to the authority by site owners to legalise their businesses.
The council says it is working on a ‘Special Plan’ to regulate such activities across the municipality.
