A 32-YEAR-OLD man was seriously injured after being gored on the first night of Calpe’s ‘Bous al Carrer’ bull runs in Alicante province.

The incident happened at around 2am on Wednesday and the victim- a Calpe resident- is said to be in a ‘serious but stable’ condition at Denia Hospital.

The main damage appeared to have been done to one of his legs.

FIRST NIGHT ACTION FROM CALPE

The goring occurred on Calle Conde de Altea when the man jumped over a wooden barrier to go to safety but slipped with the bull charging him several times.

Several people got involved to prevent further injuries inflicted by the ‘strong’ animal.

Witnesses said the victim spent the evening behaving in a risky manner trying to repeatedly jump barriers out of the pathway of bulls.

Other flashpoints on the first night included a bull charging a runner who fell but only sustained a minor injury to his face.

Another bull hooked a man by a fanny pack that he was wearing and threw him into the air, but he managed to escape behind a safety barrier.

Despite the one serious injury, the Wednesday night run will go ahead as scheduled.
