VALENCIA has been given a big thumbs-up as a sustainable tourism city that is welcoming to UK tourists according to a British travel writer.
The city is this year’s European Green Capital and Michael Hodges of The Independent said that ‘everybody is welcome’ so long as they support the concept of sustainability.

He noted that large groups are not allowed inside the market as opposed to what happens in Barcelona’s Boqueria, which helps to boost sustainable tourism.
Valencia is tightened up on illegal tourist rentals and is looking into reducing the number of super-sized cruise liners that dock at the city.

These are environmental care, respect for local culture and wealth distribution among local businesses.
Tourists can play their part by visiting a popular city during the low season or perhaps choosing different destinations that don’t get the same amount of publicity.
