ALICANTE-ELCHE airport has set yet another monthly passenger record with just over 1.9 million travellers using the facility in April.

A third of passengers came from the United Kingdom, according to airport operator Aena.

The April total was 10.9% higher than the same month last year.

NEW APRIL RECORD

The cumulative figure covering the first four months of 2026 stands at over 5.8 million passengers, which is 8% more than in the corresponding period 12 months ago.

Every month so far this year has seen a new record set.

Assuming there is no disruption to air fuel supplies as a result of the Iran war, last year’s best-ever total of over 19.9 million passengers will almost certainly be surpassed.

Growth is once again boosted by the international market which grew last month by 12.3% on a year-to-year basis, with just under 1.7 million passengers registered.

United Kingdom passengers led the field with 637,030 people, accounting for 33% of the airport’s total users.

The UK was followed by Germany, with 117,359; the Netherlands, with 117,241; Poland, with 103,378; and Belgium, with 101,949.

There was also an increase in domestic users, reversing a slowing down recorded in recent months and helped by the Easter holidays.

Aena reported just over 222,000 thousand travellers, up by 1.3%.

April’s flight operations totalled 12,074 services, an annual rise of 10.9%.

The cumulative figure between January and April added up to 37,694 flights-up by 7.7% on 2025.

Airports operated by Aena in Spain closed April with 28.2 million passengers, 3.7% more than a year earlier.
