TORREVIEJA’S new Paseo del Mar shopping centre will open for business on June 11.
After over four years of construction in the city’s port area, social media announcements have confirmed next week’s launch date.
It will have 27 restaurants and two retail spaces, spread across 8,000 m2 on a 20,000 m2 plot.

FINISHING TOUCHES
The catering outlets consist of well-known fast-food franchises as well as themed restaurants, aimed at family diners.
A number of the operators will be new to Torrevieja, with the list including Lateral, Casa Carmen, La Rollerie, Sibuya, Santa Gloria, Amorino Ice Cream Shop, Brasa y Leña, Saona, McDonald’s, KFC, Foster’s Hollywood, Taco Bell, and Cien Montaditos.
It has been estimated that at least 400 new jobs have been created via the new outlets.
The Paseo del Mar already has a 600-space underground car park which opened last year.
CENTRE’S SEA VIEW
A four-screen cinema will be operated by NeoCine in addition to an Ozone bowling alley.
The €61 million private investment for the 50-year concession has been headed up by local construction firm Empresas del Sol.
Several other Vega Baja construction companies are also part of the consortium.
An additional €40 million has been pumped in by Torrevieja City Council for the general redevelopment of the port area.
Torrevieja mayor, Eduardo Dolon, said: “We are recovering the origin and identity of Torrevieja as a city linked to the sea, integrating the historical heritage with new modern and accessible spaces for people to use.”
MAYOR DOLON
Besides the Paseo del Mar centre, the works have been overhauling the port area with squares, promenades, green areas, ornamental fountains, pedestrian spaces and new urban connections.
The transformation includes a 4,600 m2 square by the Customs House.
The square has been designed with materials that reflect the iconic salt tradition of the city.
SQUARE WORK
The project also incorporates a 170-metre pedestrian promenade, next to the fishing pier, with rest and children’s areas.
Work has also been carried out to return the Minguez dock to its former glories, with an area including a large illuminated ornamental fountain.
A museum is also being created in the dock area to allow residents and tourists to learn about the port’s history including its importance to fishing.
