AN OFF-DUTY Policia Nacional officer intervened in Denia to stop a 74-year-old British man from beating up his wife.
The policeman heard screaming coming from inside a townhouse and restrained the attacker who was punching his 72-year-old wife.
The officer found her curled up in a fetal position on the sofa.

The couple have been married for over 50 years and live in the United Kingdom but have owned a property in Denia for around two decades.
The incident happened in mid-April.
The officer- by chance- is a member of the Policia Nacional’s Family Unit, specialising in cases of gender violence.
He heard a commotion coming from a house and went in through an open front door to discover a sobbing and screaming woman.
The victim was bleeding as a result of blows sustained to her face with a medical report stating that she suffered multiple contusions.
The officer restrained her husband and then contacted his colleagues at the Policia Nacional station in Denia, as well as calling for an ambulance.
There have been no reported cases of domestic abuse involving the man, but the wife told police that there were previous instances of her being beaten, insulted, and harassed.
She added that these attacks had happened back in the UK when her partner had drunk alcohol but she had chosen not to report him to the police.
The off-duty police officer was praised by Policia Nacional chiefs for his intervention that prevented further assaults on the victim
The 74-year-old assailant faces a charge of domestic violence.
