A MAN who clubbed his ex-partner’s cat to death in a Torrevieja street has been arrested again- this time to execute his deportation to Colombia.
The 29-year-old animal abuser was detained by the Policia Nacional on Monday.
A Torrevieja court on May 13 ordered his expulsion from Spain for five years, after it was discovered that he was living illegally in the country.
APRIL ATTACK
A Policia Nacional statement said that ‘pursuant to the court order, he was arrested in Torrevieja and his deportation would take place over the next few hours’.
The abuse took place on Calle Jacarilla in the San Roque district of the city in late April and generated widespread outrage after video footage was posted on social media.
The man struck the cat- named Nala- 20 times on the head with a broom handle and then continually kicked the already unconscious feline that was lying on the pavement.
He was arrested by Torrrevieja’s Policia Local who had to stop him from making further assaults on the dead pet and was under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
He was also reported by his former girlfriend and animal rights groups for animal abuse and gender violence.
MAY 12 PROTEST
The aggressor admitted at a later hearing to committing the offences and to avoid 20 months of jail time, he accepted his expulsion from Spain.
The five-year-deportation period also means that he will not be able to travel to any European Union member state.
The day before his May 13 court date, a protest calling for ‘Justice for Nala’ was held in Torrevieja- attracting around 400 people outside his home.
Demonstrators branded him a ‘murderer’ and a ‘coward’ with calls made for him to be jailed.
