TORREVIEJA has given itself an autumn deadline to remove all domestic birds including hens, roosters and chickens that have freely been roaming for years in parks and streets.
The birds pose a danger to traffic, frequently ending up on roundabouts which could cause an accident.
The Costa Blanca city has been using a professional trapping service since last year to catch and relocate the animals in a safe and humane way.

An estimated 700 feral birds are believed to have been at large in 2025.
Torrevieja’s Animal Protection Councillor, Concha Sala said the bird removal is progressing well,
The aim is to eliminate the problem after the summer to coincide with the end of year-long service contract expires.
She said work was carried out weekly and that 50 birds were removed last week alone.
Sala admitted that the situation is not yet ‘totally’ resolved but stated that the council had made significant progress since a contract to catch the feral fowl was awarded.
The winning company was given a year to complete the removal work.

The proliferation of chickens and roosters in various parts of the city has generated social media images and regular comments among residents and visitors.
The council said the contract was needed to prevent potential health problems, infections, or incidents arising from birds crossing between parks and streets.
It also wants to eliminate the risk of potential bird bites to children or vulnerable people.
