THE Valencia cultural summer calendar just got more interesting with the Science Museum’s body-bending new exhibition, Dance! The Art of Movement.
The announcement of this new exhibition, produced by Cité des sciences et de l’industrie (Paris) and designed in collaboration with the Centre National de la Danse.
Located on the first floor of the Science Museum, Dance! The Art of Movement aims to showcase dance as a spontaneous, expressive and universal form of human activity.
Through movement, visitors are invited to explore their bodies, emotions and relationships with others.
Ana Ortells, Managing director of the City of Arts and Sciences, highlighted the highly participatory nature of the exhibition: “From the very first moment, visitors are encouraged to take part — to dance.
“This is a fully interactive exhibition where people will constantly be moving, having fun and engaging with one another.”
The exhibition experience is organised around three major themes — ‘Spin’, ‘Jump’ and ‘Gather’ — each introduced through a video presentation.
Visitors are encouraged to participate through a combination of collective choreographic experiences and individual educational installations that explain key concepts related to movement and dance.
Among its many interactive features, visitors can control the letters of the word ‘Dance’ using body movements, practise coordinated jumps by following footprints on the floor set to different rhythms, and take part in a game that captures their jump and displays a motion analysis on screen.
The exhibition even offers a dance lesson, guiding participants through styles ranging from the branle and the waltz to disco.
Combining science, creativity and physical expression, Dance! The Art of Movement offers an engaging and entertaining experience for visitors of all ages while exploring the fascinating mechanics and cultural significance of dance.
The exhibition will open to the public on 2 July as part of its renewed summer programme. For more information and to purchase tickets for any of the exhibitions of the Science Museum, please, click here.
